Suddenly it happens..
UAE gets the major design moguls into its stores.
I'm talking Aalto, Toikka, Franck..
I remember doing a Uni essay on design history about 15 years ago- Aalto (1898-1976) being the obvious personal choice for me.
He's designs are renowned in timeless retro furniture, glass, architecture, you know it, he did it.
These artists both created their own collections but also for the larger design houses, often in collaboration with each other- like an intellectual design elite having some seriously fun.
This vase collection is from Aalto's early years in the 1930s still stands as a beautiful tulip classic in many Scandinavian homes.
Kaj Franck (1911-1989) designed a few tableware collections during the 1950s, one being the tableware range Teema.
The fusion between practicality, minimalist and design for all was the 1950s theme.
Birds by Toikka airs the 1970s. Oiva Toikka is today's most respected glass designer carrying numerous rewards and prestigeful medals from around the world.

Us Scandinavians have all our own favourite glass piece.
Mine is the Kastehelmi bowls ( dotted pastel glass ware) and the Puffball bird (the white bird)
And - of course my rare inherited vase from the 1930s that is no longer in production..the one our son will get one day (well, that is when hes able to lift its 4 kilos of weight:)
